'In six languages: English, German, French, Italian, Polnish and Russian'. Subjects include expressions of politeness, days and months and phrases useful to the early 19th century European traveller. The phrases are laid out in columns with each language beside the others. Translations are provided for such useful phrases as 'what might the expense of a return-chaise come to? For my servant and myself or for myself alone?', or, 'this is a charming gondola'. A fascinating insight into travel in this period, published during the year in which the Peninsular War had ended, where the idea of the Grand Tour had begun to wain somewhat, but mass travel brought about by the railways was still some way off. 13.5cms tall and 12.5cms wide.
