So entstehen zwischen Princeps und Res Publica zwei eindrückliche senatorische Selbstbildnisse, deren Autoren sich als selbstbewusste Systemträger zu inszenieren wissen. Literatur erscheint in diesem Kontext nicht zuletzt als ein Instrument im Konkurrenzkampf einer hochkompetitiven imperialen Elite.
