Contact seller5-star sellerHardcover. Condition: Very Good Plus. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good Minus. 1st Edition. First Edition ( 'First American Century Series Edition September 1962' ). This is the only non-library hardcover first edition I've seen for sale on the Internet. Once listed, it will be the Only signed copy for sale on the Internet. And,…the inscription is to the editor's wife (I have several other listings of books that the writer Maxwell Geismar inscribed to his wife). The inscription reads 'To Anne, And if I repeat myself with this hard-cover, so did Sherwood; but I also repeat my love, respect, gratitude and thanks, Max, Harrison, Oct 6th, 1962.' The Geismar's lived in Harrison, New York (Westchester County). As you can see from the photos, the covers are quite clean. There are a few tiny tan spots on the spine. The blue lettering on the spine is very bright. The spine ends have a little crinkling. That's pretty much it for wear if you even want to call it that. The edges and corners look terrific. The page edges are clean. There is a tiny(1/8th") pen jag on the bottom page edge. The book is square and very solidly bound with nicely tight pages throughout. The covers are nicely tight as well. The pages are very clean. I'm scrolling through without finding any instances of soiling. I'm also not seeing any creasing. There are no markings. No attachments. And with the exception of Mr. Geismar's loving inscription, no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. There is a very light amount of spotting or toning just off the top edges of the inside covers and end papers, not much of anything. There are also a few light fingerprinty spots on the rear side of the blank rear end paper. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. It's in very solid shape. The front cover is quite clean. The rear cover has a few of those light tan spots off the top edge and a couple of others elsewhere. There's a bit of scuffing at the spine ends, also one or two tiny specks of it on the front cover. I don't see any tears anywhere. There is some spotting/foxing on the rear flap, a little bit of the same just off the top edge of the front flap. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. I've had it in a fitted protective cover for as long as I've owned the book which goes back a number of years. The flaps contain 'a partial list of titles in the American Century Series, distinguished paperback books in the fields of literature and history.' You can read a little bit about this book from the photo of the rear cover of the jacket. Inscribed by Author(s).
