Der Künstler…hat seit 2005 ein großes Archiv historischer Schallplatten zusammengetragen und kombiniert diese Tondokumente in seinen Installationen und Performances - oftmals Kollaborationen - mit elektronisch erzeugtem Sound. So dekonstruiert er zunächst das historische Material, versetzt es in einen zeitgenössischen Kontext und rekonstruiert auf diese Weise - durch die strukturierende Zusammenschau des zuvor völlig verstreuten Materials - eine ansonsten sinnlich nicht einholbare Vergangenheitsschicht. Damit verleiht er unserer Beschäftigung mit der Geschichte neue Impulse, eröffnet eine wirklich überraschende zusätzliche Perspektive. Generell hinterfragt Dani Gal damit, wie Geschichte oder besser noch: wie ihr Mitschnitt konstruiert, verpackt, präsentiert und komsumiert wird, wobei es nicht nur um die einzelne Vinylplatte als ästhetisches Objekt geht, sondern auch um alle mit ihr verbundenen Informationen. Neben etlichen Schallplatten zum Zweiten Weltkrieg und seinenProtagonisten (»Hitler spricht«, Goebbels, Roosevelt, Churchill etc.) sind es vor allem amerikanische Tonträger der Nachkriegszeit, die in seiner Sammlung hervorstechen: Reden von Kennedy, Nixon, Jesse Jackson oder Sammel-LPs mit O-Tönen aus den Jahren 1967, 1968 und folgenden. Das wirft Fragen nach den historischen Geschehnissen und ihrer medialen Präsentation auf, was von Dani Gal aber umgehend in ironische Distanz gebracht wird, indem er den analogen Semantikkosmos der gesprochenen Sprache mit den von ihm produzierten digital-elektronischen Soundwolken vernebelt. Das vorliegende Buch dokumentiert nicht nur seine auf akribischer Recherche in dem Irrgarten der Medienarchive basierende Arbeit, sondern verwebt das - im eigentlichen Sinne - Quellenmaterial mit der Popkultur und formt dabei so etwas wie ein fotogräsches Ready-made. 260 pp. Englisch.
