Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores a relatively new field of psychologyâ"that of the negative afterimage. The author begins by outlining the current prevailing theories regarding the nature of afterimages, namely the Exhaustion Theory and the Oscillation Theory, and points out their respective shortcomings. He goes on to describe his own experiments and observations, which appear to support a different theoryâ"one that treats afterimages as self-existing sensations, not as a result of retinal fatigue. The author believes that his theory of the negative afterimage is more in line with direct psychological observation and that it avoids the problems inherent in the prevailing theories that have been advanced to date.
