Serpa Pinto : Pueblos en la tormenta by G.Garretto (INSCRIBED to & From the Library of GENERAL CHARLES DE GAULLE) red leather bound with "General Charles de Gaulle" in gilt lower front. raised bands, gilt spine letterin…g. originally distributed by Ediciones Quetzal, Mexico, 1943. Limited edition of 20 copies not for sale, This is no.11. "To General Charles de Gaulle, interpreter of the conscience of the French, a respectful tribute from an Italian who loves France as much as Italy and who ??? so that these two great Latin nations, - which men avenged by petty and criminal selfishness have separated ???? - hear the voice of their blood and finally be truly two sisters." Garretto was an Italian writer. An author of short stories and novels, many of his works remain unpublished in Italy, but they are precious testimonies to the moral and political commitment that pervaded his entire life. His most important publications are "Sicilie terre de douleur" (published in Paris in 1939, and later in Italy with the title "Sicilia, terra di dolore" in 1946) and "Serpa Pinto. Pueblos en la tormenta" (Mexico, 1943, unpublished in Italy). But Giuseppe Garretto was not just a writer: he was also an unwavering idealist and anti-fascist. A staunch anti-fascist, he was actively involved in Milan, joining the Socialist Party alongside figures such as Saragat and Nenni. His political activism led him to confront the repression of Mussolini's regime, which forced him to flee first to France and then to Mexico in 1933, to escape fascist persecution and Hitler's threats. "leather wear, edge rubbing etc, inside is clean tight and very good". Inscribed by Author(s).
