While it looks like a standard biographical photo book, it has a unique production format and historical con…text: ### The "Cigarette Card" Album Format As noted at the bottom of the title page, the book was published by the ***Cigaretten/Bilderdienst* (Cigarette Picture Service) in Altona-Bahrenfeld**. This was a highly popular form of interactive propaganda known as a *Sammelalbum* (collecting album). When citizens bought specific brands of cigarettes, the packs included small, glossy photographic prints as premiums. Smokers would collect these cards and paste them into designated blank spaces inside the book to complete the volume. A complete book contains close to 200 individual black-and-white and color cards. ### Production and Content * **Publication Date: ** First issued in **1936**. * **The Contributors: ** Unlike the previous booklet, which relied mostly on Heinrich Hoffmann's captions, this luxury album featured essays written by the top echelon of the Nazi regime to deify Hitler.
