Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the relationship between organic carbon, sulfur, and iron contents in shales of the New Albany Group, a sequence of sedimentary rocks deposited in the Illinois Basin during the Devonian-Mississippian period. The author investigates how these relationships can reveal…the depositional and diagenetic histories of these shales. The study contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of the paleoenvironmental conditions that existed in this region during the formation of these important black shales. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book employs chemical fingerprinting to correlate widespread Ordovician K-bentonite beds in the Mississippi Valley. The author analyzed 26 elements in samples from 63 outcrops and 4 cores to identify unique chemical signatures for four distinct beds: Deicke, Millbrig, Elkport, and… Dickeyville. These signatures reflect differences in the original composition of the volcanic ash from which the beds formed. The Deicke and Millbrig beds have been traced over 900 km, and the Elkport and Dickeyville are chemically identifiable in the northern outcrop area. The book provides a valuable tool for correlating these beds over long distances and sheds light on the complex facies relationships and lateral gradations within the Decorah Subgroup. This geochemical approach is a significant contribution to the understanding of Ordovician stratigraphy and the volcanic history of the Appalachian mobile belt. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
