Custom slipcase in similar brown cloth has two compartments, one for the book and a second containing a box holding the very large folding map. In addition to contai…ning a record of the expedition, the work contains astronomical, botanical and meteorological observations. This copy has its 22 plates and its 5 maps, which includes the very large folding map; the other 4 maps are bound into the book. Condition: there are a few early library markings stamped at several places in the book; the spine has been rebacked; the pages and plates and maps show foxing, ranging from slight to considerable. There are tide-marks to a number of pages at the back of the book. The very large map has been rebacked and has minimal damage at the folds and some tape repairs but is otherwise quite good. Overall, this is a very good, tight copy of the more desirable Senate edition. 693 pages.
