Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the causes of nerve-related health issues prevalent during the last half of the 19th century, a historical period known as the "nervous age." The author, a medical doctor, argues that the rise of nerve-related health issues in this period is a direct result of societal changes occurring due to the Industrial Revolution, which was fundamentally changing how people lived and worked. The book claims that individuals were experiencing increased emotional distress, anxiety, and physical symptoms associated with "nervousness." The author attributes this rise in nerve-related health issues to the increasing demands of modern life, excessive consumption of stimulants like alcohol and caffeine, earlier exposure to adult behaviors among young people, and the social pressures resulting from the growing gap between rich and poor. The book concludes by positing that these issues would only worsen in the years to come unless society took action to address the root causes of the "nervous age." This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
