A legitimately deaccessioned ex-library copy with usual markings (paper residue to spine and top edge, barcode paper and library stamp to front pastedown, paper slip to front free endpaper, small library stamp to illustrations page), few spots to boards and spine, extremely little wear to spine foot and head, gently bumped corners, few spots to front free endpapers, else very good(-).

Houghton Mifflin on jacket spine and book spine as well as title page, Doubleday Page on copyright page, Boston 1909, 254 pages, INSCRIBED and SIGNED by author, Lucy Pratt, on front free endpaper, list of illustrations, profusely illustrated in b&w with drawings by Frederic Dorr Steele, many full page, including tissue-guarded frontispiece, 5"x 7.5", hardcover, red cloth with black titles on front and spine, corners faintly worn, spine ends slightly rounded, fair dust jacket with wear and chipping to corners and edges as well as hinges, jacket shows a few small creases and a very few short closed tears, jacket edges and spine ends missing a few small pieces, 1/2" piece missing from spine, 2.25"x 1" piece missing from front flap, panels detached from jacket spine and neatly taped by a previous owner, jacket panels and spine lightly scuffed and soiled, front jacket panel shows a light damp mark and former owner's ink name along top edge, dust jacket protected in plastic cover, one interior hinge cracked but holding very well, otherwise contents clean and tight, book very good (VG/Fair) 4184 [(s)0410KW]. Hardcover. Condition: Good+. Large Octavos, 5 Volumes, 2 Slipcases. Quarter black cloth, illustrated paper with embossed vignette, speckled edges. Both slipcases are sold but with moderate edgewear which becomes heavy at corners. Can provide pictures of those. All five volumes have similar reading and edgewear, with rubbed corners, some split. 3 out of the 5 volumes have most the onion paper still present. Slipcases have moderate shelving wear, scuffing, and chipping along extremities. Boards have mild rubbing wear, faint white smudges and flecks along spine, and mild general shelving wear along extremities. Text block edges speckled.
