Condition: GOOD. First printing. The rather uncommon fourth book for older children by this noted Alaskan artist and wife, Sara. Although Fred was born in Ohio and Sara in Tennessee, they both fell in love with Alaska - and with each other when they met in Skagway in 1946. Although they were busy shooting films for Disney and others, writing and lecturing, one of their main goals was finding the most beautiful scene in Alaska and to "build a studio home around the window. In the summer of 1950, they found their 'view' in the heart of 3,000 acres of forest in scenic Matanuska Valley. Their home 'High Ridge' they built themselves, with logs from their own land, and this experience, furnished the background" for this book. (MLJLibrary) Illustrated with drawings by Fred Machetanz. 177 pp. Good overall in blue cloth with black lettering on spine, black bear on front cover (some soiling to covers, gift inscription and some foxing to margins of several pages, but still a sturdy and attractive copy).
