Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Description: • Author: Lee Wulff (Editor) with Ted Janes, Henry Lyman, Clyde Ormond, Frank Woolner • Full Title: The Sportsman's Companion: A Compendium of Advice on How to Identify, Stalk, Fish & Hunt for North American Fish & Game, with Detailed Information on Equipment, Camping & Various Other Matters • Publisher: Harper & Row, Publishers, Incorporated • Year: 1968 • Edition/Printing: First Edition • Binding style and materials: Hardcover, bound in sturdy brown cloth with bright gilt lettering on the spine and a gilt Harper & Row 1817 publisher's device on the front board. Complete with its original pictorial dust jacket designed by Harry Carter. Notable features: This comprehensive guide for the North American sportsman was the inaugural recipient of the prestigious Abercrombie & Fitch Award, established in 1968. It covers an extensive range of outdoor activities including freshwater and saltwater fishing, hunting, equipment, camping, hiking, canoe cruising, automobile camping, rock trips, and winter camping. The text is enriched with 130 detailed pen-pencil drawings and diagrams throughout, illustrating various fish species, game animals (such as bison and peccary), hunting equipment, fishing tackle (hooks, rods, reels), natural baits, and camping gear. Condition: Exterior Spine condition: The book's cloth spine is firm and square, with bright, untarnished gilt lettering. The dust jacket spine shows significant chipping and tears, particularly at the head and foot, and exhibits rubbing and some sunning. Boards/covers: The book's brown cloth boards are clean with sharp corners, displaying only minor shelf wear. The front board features a crisp gilt publisher's device. The dust jacket is present but shows substantial edge wear, rubbing, and a few closed tears, especially along the top and bottom edges. The rear panel of the dust jacket has notable surface wear and small losses. Edge wear: The edges of the book's boards are generally clean with minimal wear. The dust jacket edges are heavily worn, chipped, and torn, consistent with a well-used jacket. Gilt condition: The gilt lettering on the book's spine and the publisher's device on the front board remain bright and distinct. Hinges/binding integrity: The binding is tight and square, with hinges strong and intact, indicating a robust internal structure. Dust jacket condition: Present, but in Fair to Good condition. It is price-clipped on the front flap ($11.95 visible, but part of flap is missing). Displays heavy wear, chipping, small tears, and creasing along all edges and folds. The front and back panels show general surface rubbing and some discoloration. The Abercrombie & Fitch Award text on the back of the dust jacket is fully legible despite the wear. Interior Page quality: The pages are clean, crisp, and bright throughout, with strong legibility for both text and illustrations. Foxing: Absent. Toning/browning: A very light, uniform toning is present to the page edges, typical for a book of this age, but pages remain largely bright. Writing or inscriptions: No discernible writing, marks, or inscriptions. Tears, stains, creases, or repairs: The interior pages are free of tears, major stains, creases, or repairs. Completeness: All listed contents and illustrations appear to be present.…
