Dust jacket protected in a mylar cover. Richly illustrated with colour plates. *** "Known primarily for his iconic midwestern buildings, Frank Lloyd Wright found in the western United States a new canvas on which to apply his theories of organic architecture. There he found radically different climates, abundant but unfamiliar building materials - even a different quality of light, which he sought to incorporate into his progressive designs. Surveying twenty-three projects in all the western states outside California, Frank Lloyd Wright: The Western Work shows the profound leaps Wright made in his designs during the second half of his remarkable career. / Dixie Legler is a curator, author, and editor of the Frank Lloyd Wright Quarterly. She lives in Washington State." - Publisher. Size: 4to. Collectible.…

Condition: Very Good. 128 pages, b&w photographs of rodeo performers. In publisher's shrinkwrap. After reading a front-page article in The New York Times about the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo, Arthur Frank took a week off from work to travel around Wyoming, photographing whatever rodeos he could find. Once there, he found the culture of the American cowboy very much alive and kicking. Although their practical skills remain essential to modern ranching, it is the rodeo where their trade is praised, perpetuating the myth and mystique of America's rough and rugged iconthe cowboy. Cowboy Up, Frank's first monograph, presents photographs taken at more than fifty rodeosincluding high school, college, and women's competitions in addition to professional rodeosin Wyoming, Colorado, South Dakota, Nevada,Arizona, Calgary, Alberta, even Binghamton, New York. As a former football and rugby player from New York City, Frank approached the roundup with an athlete's understanding, while his profession provided distance from the clichés associated with the sport. With photographs that capture the vigorous physicality of one of the world's most erratic and dangerous sports, Cowboy Up delves deeply into the modern cowboy's life, capturing riders during the jittery wait before the roundup, and back at the ranch, engaging in work that tamed the Wild West. Frank's outsider perspective and insider access combine to provide a humanistic yet dynamic and inspiring view into a lifestyle that has become an American legend. Record # 351208.…

Hardbound. Condition: Good. Description: 303 drawings are printed on glossy plates, printed double sided, with a brief caption next to each drawing; further notes on the plates are found at the rear. The publisher's blurb declares this book ''faithfully reproduces all details of his drawings as well as of the various kinds of paper on which they were dawn. To retain the quality of the often fragile originals, the greatest care has been taken to reproduce all the marks of the architect's work: his handwritten notes, erasures and corrections as well as the patches and tears that resulted from the constant handling of these original drawings in his daily work. These drawings include his designs for many houses, small and large, apartment and industrial buildings, skyscrapers, churches and hotels, museums and resorts, theaters and floating cabins, bridges and motels, community centers and observatories, a sports pavilion, a self-service garage, a summer colony, a boat club, an amusement park. His drawings for the ideal city are also included, together with his unique design for the ideal motor car and helicopter.'' Note: there is no printing statement, and we find only the original copyright date of 1962; this is clearly a later printing (probably mid-1970s). BINDNG/CONDITION: black cloth with gilt title; owner's name on the front endpaper; Good condition, with a Very Good dust jacket; publisher's price on the jacket flap is intact. notes to the plates, index to the plates. 4to (about 12 inches tall). 320 pages.…

Paperback. Condition: Good. First Edition. pp. 80. "Although paintings by members of the Group of Seven have been included in all major exhibitions of Canadian painting, there has been only one important exhibition devoted exclusively to their work since 1933, when the Group of Seven was merged into the larger Canadian Group of Painters: this was held at the National Gallery of Canada in 1936. The present exhibition, then, may be regarded as the second such survey. It differs from the first by the addition of works by Franz Johnston, who was a member of the Group for a short time, and Tom Thomson, who was never a member, but who has been included in this exhibition on grounds of style and association. This is certainly the first time that any major collection of the work of the Group of Seven has been seen in Vancouver." - Introduction. Includes article by Lawren Harris entitled "The Story of the Group of Seven" and an article by R.H. Hubbard entitled "The National Movement in Canadian Painting". Catalogue proper begins on page 19 and includes colour and black and white reproductions of thirty-one works. Unmarked with moderate wear. 23 x 15cm.
