In-8 3 feuillets non chiffrés (faux-titre, titre, dédicace à Pie IX) VIII-XI 2-378pp. Demi chagrin bleu marial à coins, dos à nerfs, tête dorée, non rogné, reliure de l'époque. Orné, en frontispice, d'un portrait de Pie VI en héliogravure. Bel exemplaire très frais et complet. Aimée-Marie de Franclieu (1837-1908), religieuse Dominicaine, a surtout étudié l'histoire des persécutions du Clergé Catholique durant la Révolution Française. Elle retrace ici la fin cruelle réservée au Pape Pie IV (1717-1799), adversaire de la Révolution. Fait prisonnier par les Français, âgé et malade, il demanda en grâce de pouvoir mourir à Rome, ce qui lui fut refusé. Transporté à la prison de Valence (Drôme) après un voyage épuisant à travers les Alpes, il mourut dans cette ville. Son coeur et ses entrailles sont toujours à Valence, sa dépouille fut ramenée à Rome en 1801.
