Ma, grande viveur qual era, vendette subito il tessuto e sperperò il denaro per soddisfare i suoi piaceri. Giunto il gran giorno, tuttavia, sfilò davanti a Carlo V con un elegantissimo abito damascato, subito notato dall'illustre ospite, che rimase ancor più meravigliato quando, toccandolo, scoprì che si trattava di un abito di carta bianca abilmente decorata.
