Les Belles Lettres, Paris, 1972. X,396p. Original gilt stamped cloth with original titled mylar wrps. Wrps slightly damaged. Pages bit yellowed due to paper quality. With signature from Prof. Carl Deroux on free endpaper. 'This useful study of Polybius' special version of the koine summarizes the results of many nineteenth century German dissertations, and adds much information derived from the author's own researches since 1931. He makes wide use of other Greek others for comparative purposes. (.) There are four sections on vocabulary, morphology, syntax, and style, and an appendix of 64 pages listing non-classical words and words used with a non-classical sense or constructions by Polybius. (.) Within its own clearly defined limits it is a useful and praiseworthy piece of work, to which readers of Polybius will often have occasion to refer. For many purposes it affords a convenient substitute for older monographs no longer easy to acquire, and it contains much that is not to be found elsewhere. All students of Polybius and of the koine are in the author's debt.' (F.W. WALBANK in The Classical Review (New Series), 1975, pp.28-30). From the library of Professor Carl Deroux.
