Original Cloth. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Complete 12 volume set of the works of Shakespeare. Undated but I believe this set dates from the early twentieth century. Preface by H. Arthur Doubleday and a glossary by T. Gregory Foster. This edition is largely based on the Folio of 1623 and printed from the text of the Whitehall Edition. Volume I contains an index of all the characters in the plays. Original blue cloth with gilt lettering on the spines and blind stamped decoration to the front panel. Light edge and surface wear to the boards with a little rubbing at the top and bottom of the spine and at the corners. Gilt top edges to pages and fore edges and bottom edges rough cut with some scattered brown spotting. Scattered light spotting to the pages at the front and back. Pages generally clean and unmarked. Volume IV has a little fraying to the top of the spine. Volume VI has bumping to the corners of the rear panel which has a small patch of surface tearing and denting at the right edge next to the spine. Volume VIII has a small crack at the top of the spine. Volume X has staining around the edges of the front panel and heavier edge wear. Volume XI has staining to the front panel and heavier edge wear with a little fraying to the top of the spine. Volume XII has a one inch crack at the top of the spine and two stains to the rear panel. Because this is a set of 12 volumes there will be an additional postage charge so if this is a concern please make contact before ordering so the different options can be discussed.
