He left behind him an autobiogtaphy, in three volumes of manuscript amoutningaltogether to a thousand pages. Admiral of the Fleet David Richard Beatty, 1st Earl Beatty, GCB, OM, GCVO, DSO, PC (1871-19…36), commanded the Battle Cruiser Fleet at the Battle of Jutland in 1916. He succeeded Admiral Jellicoe as as Commander in Chief of the Grand Fleet, eventually rising to First Sea Lord. He received the surrender of the German High Seas Fleet and escorted them to internment at Scapa Flow in November 1918.
