Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. This massive 649-page volume, which comprises four separate books, measures 10.5 x 8 inches and is 2.25 inches thick. It is generously illustrated throughout with each individual artist attributed by name. The images include numerous steel and wood engravings and maps, including one fold-out of the entire island, another of the island on two contiguous full pages, in addition to at least one map of each county, many in full color. Several of the steel engravings are protected by a bound page of tissue and are suitable for framing. A number of lovely personal items are tucked into the book, such as a spray of dried fern leaves, a dried baby rose on its branch, and a Sacred Heart holy card written in French. Interestingly, the book has two title pages. The first has a steel engraving and lists Thomas Kelly of New York as publisher. The second title page has no illustration and lists H. H. Taylor of Bay City MI as publisher. Condition: Internally, the book is in Near Fine condition and has no foxing. However, the binding and covers are in Very Good- to Good+ condition; thus the entire volume is in Very Good condition overall.
