First Edition. (London: Amalgamated Press - The Boys' Friend Library, No. 501, 7 November 1935). First UK Edition. A Softcover. Not issued with a D/W. Publisher's original stapled printed wrappers with pictorial front cover. Held together with a single staple now somewhat rusted and stained.as a result. 96 pages. A little corner creased and curled, slightly dust-soiled, spine partly torn (revealing the binding underneath with resultant paper damage) near the centre of the spine with partial loss of lettering: 'BOYS' FRIEN[D LIBRARY]'. There is a tiny chip from the top right hand corner of the front cover. A VG good copy of - perhaps - the rarest and most fragile first edition Biggles titles, with no markings or repairs. The book is an anthology comprising 12 R.F.C. era short stories which had earlier appeared in The Modern Boy between 1934-1935. Clearly it was not meant to be kept for posterity and this is the first copy that I have have handled (or indeed seen offered for sale) since the millennium. NB: this is the correct paperback first edition from 1935 and should not be confused with Norman Wright's hardback re-issue from 2009. Looks very smart in its custom-made acetate wrapper. Photographs/scans available upon request.…
