Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. O.F. SNELLING (BOOKSELLER FRIEND OF IAN FLEMING) - DOUBLE 0 SEVEN (007) JAMES BOND: A REPORT, published by U.K. publisher Spearman (only hardcover edition - in the U.S. book was published as a pb only), copyright 1964, First Printing (no reference to subsequent printings), white endpapers, black boards with silver gilt lettering to spine. NOTE - THIS WAS THE FIRST OF SEVERAL LITERARY CRITISM BOOKS THAT WERE PUBLISHED IN THE 1960S REGARDING IAN FLEMING AND HIS FICTIONAL HERO JAMES BOND (INCLUDES BOOKS LIKE "THE JAMES BOND DOSSIER" "THE DEVIL WITH JAMES BOND" "THE BOND AFFAIR", etc.). Book has no creased page corners, hint of dust soiling to outer page edges which are still white (no foxing/age darkening), no former ownership markings or used bookstore stamps/stickers inside (however apparently this was a review copy sent to a publisher as the DJ rear panel has been stamped by "Albert Saifer ,Publisher"), clean endpapers with no staining or scotch tape marks, no internal hinge splitting, no wear to board edges, corners or spine tips, no bumped board corners, no soiling/markings to boards, no wear/oxidizing to gilt spine lettering. Overall a FINE-/N-FINE book in VG+ condition dust jacket (price clipped) of a Ian Fleming related James Bond 1st UK printing hardcover book. I have a number of other U.S. and U.K. Ian Fleming James Bond 1st printing hardcover appearances up for sale.

Dust Jacket Condition: dj. First Edition. [Reference/ Literary criticism] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (22 x 15cm), pp.160. Publisher's black cloth hardcovers in the Richard Chopping-style dust-wrapper. A lovely fresh copy in a crisp, bright wrapper, albeit price clipped. A former book illustrator and intelligence operative in Russia, Oswald Frederick [Fred] Snelling was a highly-regarded member of the antiquarian book trade, serving as the Chief Clerk for London's Hodgson's and then Sotheby's Rare Book Department where he befriended the book collector Ian Fleming and assisted him in research for the James Bond novels. A more serious critique on the life and times of suave secret agent James Bond, which, unlike Kingsley Amis' 'The James Bond Dossier' the same year, was not a great commercial success when released, and is now a rather elusive piece of Bondiana. First edition, first printing. Signed by the author. Publisher's original black cloth with silver titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. A very near fine copy, the binding square and firm with just a touch of bumping a the spine tips, the boards bright and fresh. The contents are clean throughout and without previous owners' marks. Complete with the very lightly rubbed dustwrapper that is bright and without fading, loss or tears. Not price-clipped (18s net to the lower front flap). Inscribed by the author in black ink on the front endpaper "For Robin [underlined] / From Fred / 16 Aug 1974". Scarce thus. The first full length critical study of James Bond (preceding Kingsley Amis' The James Bond Dossier), and the only such book of its type to be approved by Ian Fleming (who died in the same month and year of first publication). O. F. ('Fred') Snelling was an illustrator, film critic and biographer who became a respected member of the antiquarian trade working as a clerk for the London auctioneer Hodgson's, later Sotheby's Rare Book Department, where he first met the James Bond author and rare book collector Ian Fleming. Further details and images for any of the items listed are available on request. Lucius Books welcomes direct contact with our customers. Signed by Author(s).
