Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Reprint. 8vo. [3], iv-xv, [4], 20-384, [6] (pages of publisher's advertisements), [4] pp. Blindstamped brown cloth with gold lettering on the spine. Yellow endpapers and pastedowns. Illustrated with a steel-engraved frontispiece portrait of Dr. Fitch, and with thirty or so in-text engravings of t…he lungs, the heart, the bladder, internal organs, the rib cage as its affected by consumption, and several other anatomical diagrams. The twenty-fourth edition. Fitch seems to have published this text to advertise several of his own "medical products" to aid in the fight against tuberculosis, aid against bad posture, and to help extend the lifespan. Fitch's book includes portaits of men and women he claims to have lived to 160 years or longer. A reprint of spurious medical advice, fascinating in its depiction of rudimentary medical knowledge. Sunning to the spine and the front hinge slightly shaken (binding is secure), leaves show light pencil marginalia.
