A first printing of the UK hardback - in a protected jacket that is unclipped. With such a wonderful subject you would think that Simon & Schuster would have printed this on a decent paper! Like all copies this has a tanned text block. Despite this it is a wonderful account of a profoundly important subject.

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. This fascinating book charts Philip Larkin's arrival in Hull, his relationships with the Hartleys. Jean Hartley evokes the 50s and the 60s brilliantly, and the small press became an important chapter in the literary history of the time. Obviously of interest to the Larkin collectors but it really is more than that. This is a tight clean first edition hardback, in a brilliant protected jacket that has been price clipped.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. This has all the expected first edition factors, but it is not PERFECT. It has a slight lean because it has been read. But at least it isn't shabby. A decent hardback first edition in a jacket that is protected and with a slightly sun tanned spine.
Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. Superb first printing, looks unread. This fine writer is well worth reading as well as collecting. The only flaw comes direct from the publisher; why use cheap paper for such a superb writer? Apart from that, this is a great copy in a protected jacket, ideal for the collector.

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. This is the largest book I have come across; it measures 2 feet high by 1 foot wide. I have never sent a book like this in the post so if you are interested I'm sure we can work something out. It is a FIRST EDITION HARDBACK, and it weighs a fair bit. It is an astonishing publication. For the aviation fan it is very simply STUNNING. Whether you are ten years old or a hundred; if you enjoy looking at wonderful photographs of exciting aircraft this is ESSENTIAL. The pleasure is further enhanced by the expert text. The jacket is complete and undamaged but it betrays a few signs of having been opened, hence my jacket rating of Near Fine. There are some people who will look at this and frame the pages, others will simply drool. It is special, it really is. Needless to say there will be extra postage depending on destination.

It is clean and tight and the binding has been protected by the jacket, which is inside a mylar sleeve. No annotations or owner names but it has two loose laid handwritten letters inside. These are densely written and are relevant to the contents.

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. A book graded Near Fine takes the age into consideration. This is a splendid survey which captures a time successfully. This is wonderful history; it evokes a past we have largely lost, but it is in no way nostalgic. It is all the more effective because of that. The dust jacket is dull and a bit chipped, but it is now protected. The binding is firm. 132 magnificent photographs. Numerous line drawings enhance understanding. This is a superbly written book, which informs, entertains, and educates. Rare to find it in a complete jacket.

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. A first edition hardback in an unclipped and now protected jacket. Quite rare. It has age darkened edges to the text block, but the orange binding is still distinctly orange largely because the excellent jacket has protected it. The book and jacket are graded NF to take into account the age. The binding is firm and without lean.

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Memorably featured in the WW2 film The Way To The Stars, the poem, 'For Johnny', is included in this wonderful collection of RAF poems, written by a man who served in the RAF at the time. Considering the War Economy limitations this earns a Near Fine grading for book and jacket. The unclipped jacket has very minor damage and the book is unmarked and it is rare to find such a copy. A moving series of poems and a reminder of the noble sacrifices made by mostly very young men who gave their lives while fighting tyranny. And a good reminder to those ill educated people who criticise the RAF through ignorance.

I rate it Near Fine because I am taking the age into account. It might even be unread. The protected jacket is usually damaged or missing, and the book is rarely found without sun damage, or with turned over corners. No owner names, not ex-library. A real pulp collectable.
