In this socialist realist novel a husband confesses his infidelity to his wife (what he thinks of as "that repulsive act") in a way that echoes the scene in Irina Ratushinskaya's memoir in which her husband, visiting her in the camp, confesses: "Irka . . . you must know that I love you, only you! But I was unfaithful to you''. / This was translated from the Russian by Stephen Garry. /// This is 1st edition hardback with its dustjacket in good condition-The dustjacket is faded & has been repaired with sello-tape, which is browned & the previous owner has signed the front end-paper.
