Add to basketSoft cover. Condition: Very Good. Oversized softcover with white wraps, black text across front cover and along spine. Corners gently bumped, a few faint scuffs to back cover. A few notes from former owner and butterfly expert Lincoln Brower on front cover: "ON EN" in reference to his bibliographical organization system, Endnote…, and "Gifted to LPB [Lincoln P. Brower] from TDS, 4 Oct 2005." The "TDS" in question is likely Theodore D. Sargent, a former professor of behavioral ecology whose bookplate appears on the front attached endpaper. Sargent also passed another book from this series along to Brower, listed separately. An email exchange between Brower and Sargent regarding the book is printed out and stapled to the back of the title page. Front cover dated 2001. No date on title page, no separate copyright page. 239 pages. All clean and bright, still glossy. Colorful photographs featured throughout text. Binding is tight and secure. We've got a wonderful bookcase or two of books from Lincoln Brower's collection listed here. Everything you know about Monarch Butterflies, you know because of Brower's work, both scientific and outreach. He was a great teacher, an important researcher, a torch-bearing conservationist, and a leading light in lepidoptery. We are extremely excited to offer his books. Please email with questions or to request photos. Note: if there is a photo beside this listing, it's a STOCK photo that ABE put there (for reasons that we cannot understand or control) and might not match this actual book.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is a comprehensive guide to the fascinating world of geometroid caterpillars, those distinctive inchworms, loopers, and spanworms that inhabit the forests of northeastern and Appalachian regions. The author delves into the intricate details of these often overlooked creatures…, revealing their remarkable adaptations and unique life cycles. The book draws on a rich historical context of scientific observation, integrating insights from decades of research by entomologists, while also highlighting the often-overlooked role these caterpillars play in the delicate balance of forest ecosystems. You'll discover how their camouflage strategies, from leaf mimicry to twig-like disguises, have evolved to ensure survival. Beyond simply identifying these creatures, the author explores the fascinating behaviors of geometroids, including their feeding habits, methods of locomotion, and complex mating rituals. You'll also gain an understanding of their ecological importance, from their role as a food source for birds to their influence on nutrient cycling within the forest. This book is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the natural world, revealing the hidden beauty and intricate complexity of the world around us. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
