Galeano took advantage of his contacts and relationships in addition to Vogelius's great financial availability to summon the best. Rogelio García Lupo directed the Political Collection; Chilean journalist Alfonso Alcalde The great reports of Crisis; his friend Mario Benedetti Esta América a collection dedicated to narrative, essays and regional poetry . Horacio Achával, prominent editor of EUDEBA and the Centro Editor de América Latina (CEAL) took charge of an unnamed collection. And, finally, Aníbal Ford, Galeano's former colleague at Che magazine, directed the most prolific of these initiatives called the Cuadernos de Crisis, which published 29 titles on various Latin American historical issues in a revisionist key. The magazine was founded by Federico Vogelius and successfully received by the public between May of 1973 and August of 1976. In its first period it reached a total of 40 numbers at an approximate average of 80 pages per issue, to analyze the characteristics of Crisis, an icon of Latin American journalistic excellence of its time, it may be useful to begin with the material, political and intellectual conditions that allowed its appearance and its closure. The creation of Crisis was the result of the work of a publishing group that was attentive to the demands of an audience that suffered the constraints of a highly conflictive and paradoxical context. It was conflictive, because it was a historical period characterized by the culmination of a long cycle of social protests (1955-1973) whose centrality in the political field was occupied by the proscribed Peronism. Crisis was born in a paradoxical context, of collision and of strong contrasts, which combined the increasing authoritarian intervention of the Armed Forces on the political system, the deprivation of majorities in the decision making of the State and the imposition of values.
