Ten of the settings are transcribed from keyboard pieces in the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book, including three by William Byrd and Giles Farnaby's Fayne would I wedd; the collection closes with Thomas Morley's It was a lover and his lass, the song from As You Like It, printed with its words. Connor's introduction gives directions for playing and for balancing recorder and guitar. The Pavan is reprinted from the Schott Archive of Recorder Consorts.
