Full smooth calf tree leather binding; spine with gilt tooled compartments and five raised bands and gilt lettered maroon title label; boards with gilt borders and corner gilt decorative elements; gilt inner dentelles. Sewn-in silk ribbon page marker. Marbled endpapers; ink stamp "Edward Bumpus, 5 & 6 Holborn Bars, E.C." discreetly placed at ffep verso's top left. Some interior foxing. Binding is firm. Features poetry selections mostly on versos with b/w illustrations mostly on opposing rectos. Founded in 1780, the London bookselling firm of John and Edward Bumpus had a royal warrant and stayed in business into the 20th century. The firm contracted binding out to various prominent London firms such as Riviere, Zaehnsdorf, Sangorski & Sutcliffe, etc. so the aforementioned Bumpus stamp is, in actuality, a retailer mark rather than a bindery mark but its presence is still indicative of premier London work. Please note that this book has an approximate shipping weight of 4.5 pounds (2 kg) and may require additional postage for any postal class other than domestic Media Mail.
