Frontespizio con marca tipografica calcografica. Ex Libris di Augusto Ghibellini, realizzato da A. Rubino al verso del piatto anteriore. Coperta in mezza pelle, piatti marmorizzati; dorso con tassello indicante il titolo e decorazioni, il tutto impresso in oro. Discreto stato di conservazione: tracce di foxing diffuse. Raro esemplare accompagnato da 3 tavole, (nelle edizioni più comuni sono 2); prima edizione di questa pubblicazione che documenta il lavoro di restauro della Meridiana di San Petronio a Bologna; il volume è integrato dal trattato del 1695 firmato da Domenico Cassini e Domenico Guglielmini. La storia di questa meridiana ebbe inizio nel 1653, quando Cassini venne incaricato di progettare una nuova meridiana che fosse più precisa di quella realizzata nel Cinquecento da Egnatio Danti. Successivamente, nel 1776, Zanotti ne curò il ripristino conservativo: riportò il foro gnomonico all'altezza originaria, correggendo i cedimenti strutturali e sostituì la vecchia lamina di ferro con una nuova in ottone incastonata nel marmo. La precisione di questo intervento è stata confermata da verifiche geodetiche effettuate nel XX secolo. L'opera si distingue inoltre per le sue tavole, realizzate co matrici originali del 1695, in particolare la seconda che raggiunge 1,8 metri di lunghezza, aggiornata con le innovazioni apportate da Zanotti.
