First edition, probable second issue post-1990 (no direct edition/printing statement provided). 188, [4] pages. H 16.75cm x L 25cm. Rigid boards decorated by color Mohamed illustrations; boards lightly rubbed; tan plastic comb binder with black title with all ten comb teeth intact. Light soiling to last leaf's blank verso but interior leaves are otherwise bright and clean. Three "Notes" pages present at rear along with two unpaged leaves which have book order forms on their rectos. A near fine copy. Occasional b/w vignette illustrations by Ethel Wright Mohamed mostly at page corners along with ten full page color illustrations of Mohamed folk art embroideries on unpaged leaves with images reproduced on rectos and captions on versos in which the artist explains the image's context with a background anecdote or two. Prominent institutional holdings of Mohamed's "memory pictures" artwork include the Smithsonian, the Renwick Gallery, Mississippi's Old Capitol Museum, and her embroideries were mostly recently the subject of a special 2007 exhibition at the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art. Copyright page provides an invalid ISBN 8672557. {GastronomyShelf#5|CMS-00064}.

First edition, probable first issue (no direct edition/printing statement provided). FAMILY ASSOCIATION COPY INSCRIBED, SIGNED, AND DATED BY ETHEL WRIGHT MOHAMED. 188, [4] pages. H 15.5cm x L 24.25cm. Rigid boards decorated by color Mohamed illustrations; lightly rubbed and soiled boards held by light tan plastic comb binder with title in black ink. Text block edges toned with some leaves slightly affected at margins; past owner was a smoker and remnant odor still persists but should fade over time. Two unpaged leaves of cookbook order forms at rear have handwritten ink $15 price corrections and cross-outs of $13.50 printed price. Five-line ink inscription on title page - "Especially for Jim - | With Love + Best Wishes - | Big Mama, | Ethel Wright Mohamed | Dec, 31. 1990" with inscribee Jim being grandson James G. Fulcher, Jr. as the book was indirectly acquired from his Belzoni, Mississippi estate. Still a very good copy. It would seem likely that the earliest copies sold would not have any price corrections on the rear order forms but this copy should still fall within that first issue 1987 print run for five criteria: (1) original price order forms; (2) slightly smaller dimensions than later copies; (3) comb binder does not have teeth lock tabs and head and heel; (4) binder's head and heel are approximately 6mm below/above boards' top and bottom edges; and (5) Wimmer Brothers imprint on page 2 only cites Memphis, Tennessee and not the company's later Texas locations of Dallas and San Antonio. {GastronomyShelf#3}.
