The Jansenists were a group of nuns at Port-Royal in France, along with the laymen and priests, known as the "solitaries" who attached themselves to the monastery. They were very strict Catholics who were greatly disturbed by the "easy confessions" offered by the Jesuits. The monastery was ultimately destroyed by Louis XIV and the nuns dispersed. Tight binding. No chips, tears, creases on pages. Previous owner's name on half-title page. Black and white frontis illustration of Port-Royal. Some light pencil highlighting of text.
