Original map. Color Lithograph. 14" x 22 1/2" Beautifully designed persuasive map of Central America by Ernest Hamlin Baker. Artistically rendered with an impressive amount of detail, the map depicts the Great White Fleet Route along Banana Plantations and sugar crops from New Orleans and the Gulf Coast of the U.S. to the Caribbean, Columbia and Venezuela. The United Fruit Company, later known as Chiquita transformed the region. The symbols include radio telegraph companies. A chilling history of banana empires and colonialism. Ernest Hamlin Baker (1889-1975) was an American artist and illustrator from Poughkeepsie, New York. He illustrated more than 300 covers for Time magazine as well as several covers for Fortune magazine. PJ Mode 2136.
