Hardcover. Condition: Very good. Small quarto. (11)pp. In his inscription, the author praises Dard Hunter's many contributions to the project: "The paper, type and the printing." Produced for the Chicago Society of Etchers, each copy with a laid-in etching by Ernest D. Roth, who has signed and dated the plate. An ornate floral h…eadpiece bears Hunter's monogram, and appears above a matching six-line initial. An early work by Hunter, who has set two watermarks in the paper, one a "DH" set in a heart, and the other the insignia of the Society. Laid in articles evince the high esteem with which the Society held Hunter. A triptych brochure announces Hunter's other collaboration with the Society, The Etching of Figures, which the Society claims "as far as can be discovered.will be the first book issued in America which represents the entire work of one man." A manuscript addition to the brochure, in reference to Hunter's Marlborough-on-Hudson paper mill, notes that he "built the mill - grew the rushes and thatched the roof himself." The prospectus for the present work likewise praises Hunter's capabilities and forecasts the importance of the edition to the history of modern bookmaking. Bound in quarter vellum with tan paper over boards and paper label to upper cover. Light chipping to label, overall soiling, including minor biopredation, to boards, bumping to corners and toning to vellum, else very good. Also laid in is a bifold roster of members of the Society in 1916. One of 270 copies. Inscribed at the front cover by the author.
