Ein ähnlich klarer Stil zeichnet seine Essays aus, und auch viele seiner Gedichte überzeugen noch heute durch ihren oft "leichten Ton", ihren Biss und ihre tiefe Mens…chlichkeit. Faszinierend bleibt seine durch Freiheitsliebe, Zivilcourage und dem Wunsch nach sozialer Gerechtigkeit gekennzeichnete Haltung. Er ließ sich durch materielle Schwierigkeiten, Diskriminierungen und lange Haftzeiten nicht beirren. Seine Persönlichkeit, zu der auch Widersprüche (freie Liebe, Ehe, Pazifismus, Revolution, Freiheit und Gewalt) gehören, sperrt sich gegen Klassifizierungen. Widerstand gegen unrechtmäßige, anmaßende Obrigkeit bzw. Autorität, aber auch gegen Tabus bleibt ein Thema, das immer wieder neue Antworten sucht: "Sich fügen heißt lügen."
