Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. In this book, the author details the brutal hardships and death-defying feats of several maritime expeditions, presenting a comprehensive overview of the centuries-long pursuit of the elusive Northwest Passage. From the failures of Martin Frobisher to the ill-fated expeditions of John Franklin and others, the book delves into the challenges faced by these daring explorers as they battled perilous ice floes, scurvy, and starvation in their quest to find a sea route connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The book also explores the motivations and geopolitical implications of these expeditions, set against the backdrop of the European race for empire and the search for new trade routes. The author examines how these journeys advanced geographical knowledge and contributed to our understanding of the Arctic, while also shedding light on the human cost of exploration and the limits of human endurance. Ultimately, this book offers a gripping and thought-provoking account of the quest for the Northwest Passage, highlighting the indomitable spirit of the explorers who risked their lives in pursuit of this elusive goal, and the ways in which their expeditions have shaped our understanding of the world.
