Soft cover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. A Good copy of the first title in the poetry section of the Perspectives in Literature series. Since this was used in a school setting, there is a black stamp and writing in blue ballpoint inside the front illustrated cover. Wear to illustrated covers with smudging and creasing. Multiple creases along the length and at the bottom of the spine. Besides the creasing on the back cover, there is a deep circle imprint which causes a bit of a lean. Wear to pages on all sides with foxing and creasing to some bottom corners. Inside both covers have markings where tape was removed. I don't see any highlighting or underlining in the text. Contents:"Introduction; Narrative Poetry: Folk Ballad: The Douglas Tragedy; Barbara Allen (Scottish version); Barbara Allen (American version); Lord Randal; Get Up and Bar the Door; Sweet Betsy from Pike; John Henry; Leigh Hunt: The Glove and the Lions; Sir Walter Scott: Proud Maisie; Roy Helton: Old Christmas; Rudyard Kipling: The Ballad of East and West; Stephen Vincent Benet: The Ballad of Marco Polo; John Greenleaf Whittier: Telling the Bees; Siegfried Sassoon: The Rear-Guard; Robert Frost: The Vanishing Red; James Russell Lowell: The Vision of Sir Launfal; Robert Frost: Two Tramps in Mud Time; Edgar Allen Poe: The Raven; Lyric Poetry: William Shakespeare: When Icicles Hang by the Wall; Ben Jonson: Song: To Celia; Robert Burns: Sweet Afton; Walter de la Mare: Silver; Harry Behn, translator: Six Haiku; Sarojini Naidu: In the Bazaars of Hyderabad; Langston Hughes: Mother to Son; I, Too; Arna Bontemps: The Day-Breakers; William Butler Yeats: The Fiddler of Dooney; Carl Sandburg: Jazz Fantasia; Alfred, Lord Tennyson: Bugle Song; Edgar Allan Poe: The Bells; Sidney Lanier: Song of the Chattahoochee; Alfred, Lord Tennyson: Break, Break, Break; Birago Diop: Forefathers; Robert Burns: My Heart's in the Highlands; Willian Butler Yeats: The Lake Isle of Innisfree; John Masefield: Sea Fever; Karl Shapiro: Travelogue for Exiles; Richard Wilbur: Boy at the Window; Archibald MacLeish: Eleven; Gwendolyn Brooks: One Wants a Teller in a Time Like This; Countee Cullen: Tableau; Ralph Hodgson: Time, You Old Gypsy Man; Carl Sandburg: Limited; Arna Bontemps: Blight; Rolfe Humphries: Polo Grounds; William Shakespeare: Sonnet 18--Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer's Day?; John Crowe Ransom: Blue Girls; The King James Bible: Book of Ecclesiastes (3:1-8); Henry Timrod: Ode on the Confederate Dead; Walt Whitman: Beat!
