Engelbert Klüpfel (1733-1811) was a major Catholic theologian during the Enlightenment and profes…sor of dogmatics at the University of Freiburg until 1805. His Institutiones theologiae dogmaticae (1789) became the standard textbook of dogmatics in Austria. The Nova bibliotheca ecclesiastica Friburgensis, which he founded and largely authored, was one of the first Catholic theological journals and offered critical commentary on works of theology. It was published in seven volumes from 1775-1790; only volumes 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 are present here, each in and of itself complete. Each volume consists of four fascicules, with separate title pages. With the pencil shelfmarks of the library of the Mendham collection (no other ex-library markings). Contents are generally clean and appear little used; bindings are fair to poor; heavy rubbing and chipping to covers and backstrips (including title labels and gilt in compartments); upper cover to volumes 3, 5 and 6 detached, cover of volume 1 starting.
