Magazine / Periodical
Cloth. Condition: Very Good. Folio (14 x 10.5 inches). Six issues bound in cloth (hardcover), containing the complete monthly issues in original pictorial wrappers, November 1930 through April 1931. A bound run of this influential American design and decorative arts periodical at the height of the interwar taste for historic interiors, modern decoration, garden design, antiques, and architecture. Lavishly illustrated throughout with photographic plates, color covers, period advertisements, and articles documenting the prevailing styles of the late Jazz Age and early Depression era, including Colonial Revival, Art Deco, European Interiors, furniture design, and collecting culture. The striking January 1931 cover design by Zaklady Graficzne Straszewiczow exemplifies the magazines elegant visual presentation. Arts & Decoration was among the most important American interior magazines of the early twentieth century and later evolved into Arts & Architecture. Bound annual or semi-annual runs are increasingly rare on the market, particularly retaining the original wrappers and advertising matter. Condition: Stamped "withdrawn from Capital University Library" on front endpages. Contents generally clean and bright with only occasional light wear; original wrappers preserved. Binding sound with moderate rubbing to spine. Overall, a well-preserved group.
