First Edition
First Edition. Quarto. 29cm. Publisher's glossy photographic boards. 271pp. Clean, bright, and strong, a handsome copy with very light wear; internally clean, purple endpapers, dry residue to the final leaf has resulted in some old adhesion; a very good, sharp copy. Impulse was without much argument the leading art, media and culture magazine in Canada during the late 70's and into the 80's. Glossy, professionally presented and designed (although much of that was pure style rather than funding, as Garnet points out in his introductory piece), and with an unfeasibly high profile stable of guest contributors and artists ranging from Patti Smith and William Burroughs through to Baudrillard, Warhol, Iggy Pop, Kraftwerk and Russ Meyer. This volume collects some of the most notable contributors, articles, and pieces, and provides an inside view of the lifespan of an influential design and culture periodical between 1975 and 1990.
