Like his scrap book, this is a posthumous collection of the author's writings. It is a collection of a philosopher's aphorisms, epigrams, short essays, and reflections on life, art, philosophy, and business. Compiled by his son, the book offers a glimpse into Hubbard's personal philosophy of individualism, creativity, and purposeful living. The book is a compilation of his thoughts on various topics, presented in a concise and straightforward style that is easy to read and understand. His writing is characterized by his wit, humor, and insightful observations on human behavior and societal norms. The book is described as "coined from a life of love, laughter and work, by a man who achieved greatly in literature, art, philosophy and business". It advocates for industry, positive thinking, and moral independence. Challenging Convention: A central theme is the emancipation of individuals from "useless customs, outgrown mental habits, religious customs, laws, and superstitions". He and his wife were deep into the Arts and Crafts Movement where he was the founder of the Roycroft community, a key exponent of the Arts and Crafts movement, and the book reflects these ideals of handcrafted quality and purpose. Original editions are known for their Arts and Crafts style, featuring illuminated pages, decorative endpapers, and sometimes a ribbon-tied or leather-bound cover. A clean very presentable copy.
