Full page illustrations throughout including frontispiece. End papers are smudged and grey card wraps are worn to extremities. Spine is separ…ating, creased and desiccated with loss of pieces, and some reattachment of others. The spine of the glassine cover has chips and nicks around the edges. Internally clean with many pages unopened throughout. Poor. Acquired from Maude Lloyd, an admired leading dancer with Ballet Rambert in the 1930s. With her husband, Nigel Gosling a renowned art critic, she later wrote, influential dance books and reviews under the joint pseudonym, 'Alexander Bland'. When Rudolph Nureyev defected in 1961, Margot Fonteyn asked them to befriend him which they gladly did offering him freedom of their house. Gosling edited his autobiography. Nureyev wrote an admiring memoir of him in Observer of the Dance anthologising Goslings reviews, "He and Maude were like my family.".

Ab 1907 entfernte sich Braque vom Fauvismus und näherte sich Cezannes strukturiertem Stil an. Durch eine Begegnung mit Picasso in dessen Atelier, veränderte sich seine Formgebung erneut und näherte sich so allmählich dem Kubismus, für den er berühmt wurde. Nach dem 1. Weltkrieg und einer Kopfverletzung, entfernte er sich zunehmend vom Kubismus und Picasso und ging eigene Wege. (Zitat).

This copy is most likely one of the 700 unnumbered copies. "In July 1934, (The Gallery) Alex Reid & Lefevre opened the first Braque retrospective to be held in England" This copy SIGNED BY BRAQUE was presented to an employee (Sales.who also purchased a few art pieces from Braque) of the gallery during that retrospective and dated by Braque as well "July 34 London". Collation: Blank, Half-Title with Limitation page on verso Signed and Dated by Braque (July 1934), Frontispiece, title-page, 140 pages (Numbering actually starts at page 13) with previous pages unnumbered.
