Der Zeitraum zwischen den Jahren 1500 und 1700 gehört zu dem Teil der Geschichte des deutschen Internationalen Privatrechts, über den bisher besonders wenig bekannt ist. Es handelt sich um die erste Blüte der sogenannten Statutentheorie, deren Methode und praktische Wirkungsweise bis heute, noch immer Rätsel aufgibt. Die Originaltexte sind in Vergessenheit geraten, schwer zugänglich, ohne Lateinkenntnisse ohnehin nicht zu lesen und teils kaum noch richtig zu verstehen. Christian von Bar und Peter Dopffel stellen die bedeutendsten Autoren dieser Zeit jeweils zu Beginn des ihnen gewidmeten Abschnitts kurz vor und bringen dann ihre kollisionsrechtlichen Hauptschriften im lateinischen Original und in deutscher Übersetzung.
