The book is in really good condition, normal wear and marks apply consistent with use and age. Comes with nice brown box slipcase. 181 pages all intact, all pages, text, maps and illustrations are in good, clean, readable order. The binding design is from an engraving of Fort St George, Madras, made c. 1757. The frontispiece shows a page from Major Corneille's manuscript. The endpapers show the arms of George 11 and The East India Company. Map drawn by K.C. Jordan. Printed in Great Britain by Richard Clay Ltd, Bungay, set inpoint Baskerville 2 points leaded. The book is unblemished with no discernible faults. Top edge of text-block stained scarlet by the publisher. Internally also near fine with no inscriptions. Pages clean. No foxing. Dark green free endpapers with line maps showing the Byzantine Empire on the pastedowns. Spine tight. ***In a near fine green card slipcase. There is some mild spotting to the prelims but this does not affect the text block. The book is encased in a robust paper covered slipcase. Memoirs of Maj John Corneille (b c1727), British Army, describing voyage to India (1754) as secretary to Col John Adlercron, British Army, Colonel 39th Foot, C-in-C, Madras 1754-57, travels in south India and his part in military expeditions to Madras and Bengal, including an account of the battle of Plassey (23 Jun 1757) and description of Bengal. (Published as a Folio Society original in this edition in London 1966). Ref T4 Size: 182pp.
