Issued in Heath's Modern Language Series, this widely distributed early 20th-century academic text was designed to bridge secondary and collegiate German instruction, offering structured lessons, declension tables, and translation exercises aligned with period pedagogical standards. This copy is a particularly attractive example in original brown cloth with gilt spine titling. Binding remains tight and square with clean hinges and no cracking. The interior is notably clean, with bright pages and only light, even toning typical of the era. The only marking is a neat pencil ownership inscription on the front endpaper ('St. Charles's College, Catonsville, Md.'), easily erasable if desired and far less intrusive than ink or institutional stamping.
