Hard paper binder with red paper label to front cover is aged and worn, front corners chipped away, some pencil markings, red label has price sticker scar, back cover in better condition, corners a little bent, interior clean and unmarked except for gift signature. Includes preface by Margaret Webster; Chapters: Where Angels Fear to Tread; The Rehearsals; The Two "Henrys"; "Uncle Vanya"; "Oedipus" and "The Critic"; The Repertory: Backstage and Front (not included); The Ticket Situation First Five Rows Center; The Statistics; Characteristic Performance The Critics. Also includes scale of stage hands salaries, history of the Old vic by Olivier, opening nights, programs of Old Vic Repertory at Century Theatre, etc. Apparently, this was a work in progress and some planned parts are not yet included. C S Choate possibly George Cheyne Shattuck Choate [1827 - 1896]: founder of Choate Sanitarium, Pleasantville, New York. Slight lean, with average wear to binding. Claspbound stiff paper wrapper with typed label on the front wrap. Very good with dampstains and creasing to the front wrap and some loss to the edges of the rear wrap. Inscribed to Tony and Obie Award-winning actress Marian Seldes by stage director Edward Choate: "For Marian who loves the theatre almost as much as I do. Eddie Feb. 2, 1948 the 49th performance of "C. and P." A voluminous "Report and Reaction" of the American tour of the Old Vic by Choate and John F. Matthews, as well as an examination of "the artistic, economic, moral, social and critical atmosphere which both theatrical workers and their audiences function in this year, 1946."
