Though some of the letters from Crane to his famikly appeared in an earlier collection, they were not always printed in their entireity; this edition restores the complete text of those letters and introduces many previously unpublished letters. By presenting both sides of the correspondence Professor Lewis has provided a more complete picture of Crane's relationship with his family and of the forces that played a part in his personal and poetic development. Any admirer of Crane's poetry will find this a fascinating documentary of the poet's development, what he thought, where he went, whom he met, and what he did from day to day.
