Edited and revised by Sapere Aude The Chaldean Oracles Attributed to Zoroaster as Set Down by Julianus the Theurgist, with the Extant Commentaries of Proclus, Psellus, and Pletho, 1978 Heptangle Books, Gillette, New Jersey 12mo. [7.25 x 4.5 inches] 104 p. English Very Good A first edition by Heptangle Books of the Chaldean Oracles, an important text in the history of Neoplatonic philosophy and Western esoteric tradition. This earlier Heptangle printing predates the more commonly found later editions from the late 1980s. The book presents the surviving oracle fragments attributed to Zoroaster as recorded by Julianus the Theurgist, along with ancient commentaries by Proclus, Psellus, and Pletho. These texts were influential on later mystical, philosophical, and occult thought. A note at the rear states that the text of the oracles was handset in 14- and 18-point Goudy type with 18-point Lombardic Foundry capitals, and the footnotes in 10-point Goudy Old Style Foundry type. Bound in red cloth with paste-down title label to the spine. It is in Very Good Plus condition, with light shelf wear and minor fading and marks to the spine. The corners are very lightly bumped and there is a slight lean to the binding. Internally, the pages remain clean and clear throughout, aside from a previous ownerâs bookplate from the library of Dalton Alexander Noland. Bound in red cloth. 12mo. [7.25 x 4.5 inches] 104 p. English Very Good.
