Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Limited Edition. SELECTED WRITINGS THOMAS PAINE FRANKLIN LIBRARY LEATHER 1979 LIMITED. Here is another of the very nicely made leather-bound books of the Franklin Library, this one titled: Selected Writings Common Sense, The American Crisis & The Age of Reason, edited by Moncure Daniel Conway. This medium-sized leather-bound book (6 ĵ x 9 ½ inches, 386 pages) was published by the Franklin Library of Franklin Center, Pennsylvania, dated 1979, as part of its 100 Greatest Masterpieces of American Literature series. These books were published as limited editions under the auspices of the American Revolution Bicentennial Administration. It is bound in bright red full leather with elaborate gilt decorations on the covers and gilt titles on the spine with two bands. The endpapers are a fine bright red mauve and there is a similarly colored satin page marker ribbon bound-in. The page edges are full gilt. Condition: This book is in near fine condition. The leather boards are pristine and handsome and so too, the spine with just a few faint and tiny bruises (you will have to look carefully to see them). The leather and its gilt are astonishingly handsome. Inside, a former owner has left his neat bookplate on the first blank page but that is the only mark I found in the book. The interior pages and plates are bright white and clean throughout. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
