This work is the result of a 30-day seminar held by Campbell in 1983 with 10 students at the Esalen Institute in California, that involved an intensive exploration of the mythological dimension of life. Campbell died in 1987, and Osbon produced this work from the copious notes that she took over the course of those 30 days, much in the way that Aristotle's students produced the written versions of his works.
